Why we do this

It started with the music, as it usually does — and then with the slow, expensive realisation that most systems only ever give you part of it. That is where our founder, Jamie, began, and it is still the standard everything here is measured against.

Zen Audio is a father-and-son passion — Jamie and Khyle — which is a large part of why the answers you get here are straight ones. There is no sales floor to feed.

Between them they have spent a great many hours listening: at home, in other people’s rooms, and at High End Munich, the industry’s most important show, which Jamie regularly attends. Hearing a lot of equipment in a short space of time is a fast education. It teaches you what is genuinely different, and what is merely new.

That is how the brands here are chosen — by ear, and never quickly. Something has to do something genuinely special before it earns a place, and the list is deliberately short. It grows when something deserves to be on it, and not before.

What we actually sell is not equipment. It is the experience of hearing a piece of music you know well and finding something in it you had never noticed — and then being able to do that every evening, in your own room.
